G. Cunniffe& Sons
Five generations. Own abattoir.
A 150-year-old bacon cure.
Main Street, Ballaghaderreen · Co. Roscommon
Mon-Sat, 9am-6pm

The Same Family. The Same Street. 150 Years.
G. Cunniffe & Sons has stood on Main Street, Ballaghaderreen since the 1870s. Five generations of one family, doing one thing properly - butchering meat.

What makes this place different is simple: they own their own abattoir. On Sligo Road, less than a mile from the shop, the Cunniffes slaughter, process, and cure everything themselves. The bacon that goes in the counter on Monday morning was in the abattoir on Friday. You won't find a shorter chain in the West of Ireland.
Two Silver medals at the Blas na hEireann Irish Food Awards, 2022.
Horseshoe Gammon
The bacon cure recipe is 150 years old. The same brine, the same method, passed down through five generations. It won two Silver medals at the Blas na hEireann Irish Food Awards in 2022 for their Horseshoe Gammon. That recipe hasn't changed because it doesn't need to.
Seven people work here. The family runs the shop, the abattoir, and supplies pubs and restaurants across Mayo and Roscommon. They also sell direct to the public - walk in, or WhatsApp your order ahead.
